Every business should be completing some form of online marketing today. If you want to grow and scale your business, then online marketing is the best way to do so.
Unfortunately, most businesses will never get online marketing right. They will not be able to get an ROI on digital marketing investment.
The truth is every business should be getting an ROI, but iit takes discipline.
Marketers are easily distracted today. Almost every day there’s a new tactic, a new tool, a new technique that some expert is telling you you can’t live without.
We need to go back way back in time when there were fewer options and businesses got really good at one thing. When marketers use to perform a marketing activity over and over again, optimizing it, until it worked.
There were less options, so distractions were less of a problem.
Today, there are so many options that marketers never really get good at any one marketing activity. Marketers put a little bit of effort into Facebook today, and in three weeks when it’s not working, they move to Twitter. Then, they move to blogging, then YouTube, then quizzes, and then onto the latest fad.
You CAN make online marketing work for your business. But what you need to do is pick one strategy that you have confidence in and execute it for 12 months. Resist the urge to try it for two or three weeks and then drop it and run to the next shiny object.
Keep going deeper. Keep focusing in on that one strategy and give yourself the opportunity to actually become amazing at it. Give your business the opportunity not just to test it out or to try it out, but to go so deep that you become an expert in that one strategy.
When you do that, then you can scale the strategy and optimize every single process of that strategy. You can actually not just get one lead or two leads, you can get a flow of leads that come in on a predictable basis.
One of the best tactics available today is Facebook Ads. But most businesses will put a little bit of money behind Facebook Ads and won’t get a result. But it was never going to work because you’re not using the right strategy for Facebook Ads.
You may have never been taught so you have no change at being super successful in a short timeframe.
I can assure you that if you stick with one strategy, learn everything you can about it or get a reputable agency to help you then you can be successful. You need to also have a long term view and expect to be at it week after week, month after month, over 12 months.
Take the good with the bad, and keep going.
If you do that your business will be transformed.
Now it doesn’t matter what that strategy is. It could be:
- Writing a blog post every week
- Running Facebook Ads every week
- Uploading a YouTube video every week
- Posting on social media every day
- Connecting with potential clients and partners on LinkedIn every week and then asking for appointments
It doesn’t really matter what it is. What matters is longevity. What matters is the ability to choose something and stick with it for 12 months.
When I’ve seen businesses do this, it transforms their business and their business explodes.
This is why marketing agencies can get results when businesses can’t. An agency has a way of focusing on the task with no distractions. Unfortunately, some businesses, when it doesn’t work the first or second month, they just give up.
So the problem isn’t whether an agency can do it or they can’t do it; or whether you can do it or you can’t do it. What’s important is that you actually do it and do it consistently.
