Why isn’t my dental practice getting more new patients?

Dental practices have more people searching for them than any other kind of practice. In Adelaide alone, “dentist near me” is typed about 8,100 times a month, and even in Toowoomba people look for a dentist about 2,500 times a month. But from the outside, every dental practice looks the same, so patients book whoever Google shows first or whoever their health fund recommends. Changing that takes the right marketing for how many dentists you have, in the right order.

What's going wrong now

  • Gaps in the book, and few new patient exams
  • Patients sent to the health fund’s preferred dentist
  • Paying for ads that bring check-up shoppers
  • A new associate’s book sitting half empty

What our clients get

  • New patient exams booked online, day and night
  • Patients who choose you, whatever fund they’re with
  • Enquiries for the treatments you want more of
  • A full book for every dentist you add

We can’t promise you a number of new patients. Nobody honestly can. This is what we see again and again with past clients.

Case study · A chiropractor in Mackay

Our nearest proof: a chiropractor in Mackay went from 5.9 to 9.3 online bookings a day

It’s a chiropractic practice, not a dental one, but new patients found it the way they find a dentist: on Google Maps, then the website, then an online booking. With three chiropractors it was already on rung two and running Google Ads. We rebuilt the website, linked every service to the Google profile, and left the Google Ads exactly as they were.

  • Online bookings a day5.99.3First 10 days after launch
  • Completed online bookings292351Six weeks before and after launch
  • Cost per booking from Google Ads$15.62$13.82Same ads, same $2,558 spend

They’d been paying for SEO before the rebuild. The new website did so well that they stopped the SEO, as we recommend on rung two, then got so busy they cut back their Google Ads too.

First, a dental website that books new patients

Every other service sends patients to your website, so a dental practice starts there, with its Google Business Profile linked to it. For most practices with one or two dentists, that pair is all the marketing they need, so it’s usually where we start. On the call we confirm it: every dental practice is different, and there are exceptions.

  • A page for every treatment

Check-ups, implants, Invisalign, veneers, wisdom teeth and kids’ dentistry each get a page covering what happens, health funds and how to book.

  • Your Google Maps profile, linked

Every treatment on your Google Business Profile points to its own page, so the map shows you for “dental implants”, not only “dentist”.

  • No specialist claims you don’t hold

“Specialist” appears only beside dentists with specialist registration, and nothing says “specialising in implants”. Every word is checked against the Dental Board’s rules.

  • Emergencies booked, not missed

A toothache at 9 pm finds your emergency page, your next free time and a button that books into Dental4Windows, Exact, Dentally or Core Practice.

  • Get found in ChatGPT

AI SEO is built in, so when a patient asks ChatGPT for a family dentist nearby, it has the facts about your practice to repeat.

  • What patients can’t see

We interview you about what patients can’t see from the outside, so your website says why a family should choose you over the other practices nearby.

Once your website is live

More dental marketing services we provide

When new patient exams are booking online, four more services build on your dental website. Google Ads fills the book of each dentist you add, and SEO starts when you add a specialist discipline or a second practice.

The New Patient Growth Ladder for dental practices

One or two dentists? Usually a dental website linked to Google Maps does the job. Taking on an associate, or a third dentist? Add Google Ads to fill their book. Adding orthodontics, a periodontist or a second practice? Add SEO.

  1. 2+ disciplines and/or 2+ clinicsRung 3: + SEO
  2. 3+ dentistsRung 2: + Google Ads
  3. 1–2 dentistsRung 1: Website + Google MapsStart here

Your AI SEO is part of the rung one website, and it grows again on rung three. The ladder counts dentists, not chairs or health fund deals. On the call we confirm which rung your practice is on, because there are always exceptions.

Why dentists work with us

  • We find what makes you different

Patients can’t see your care from the car park. The interview finds what they’d choose you for, and the website says it plainly.

  • Written inside the Dental Board’s rules

Every page and ad is checked against the Dental Board's advertising guidance: no testimonials, “specialist” only for registered specialists, and the terms stated on every offer.

  • Measured in booked new patients

You see new patient exams and treatment consults booked, by dentist and treatment, not rankings and clicks.

  • Only what your practice needs

One dentist with a full book? We’ll tell you to fix the website and stop. No Google Ads or SEO until your dental practice is ready.

  • Works with your practice software

Dental4Windows, Exact, Dentally, Core Practice or Praktika: patients still land in the book you already run.

  • No race to the bottom

You don’t have to beat the corporate group on price or the fund on rebates. You have to show patients why you’re worth choosing.

Dental marketing questions practice owners ask

How much does dental marketing cost?

Dental marketing costs depend on which services your practice needs, and we can’t know that until we’ve looked, so we work it out with you on a free New Patient Growth Call. Most dental practices with one or two dentists only need rung one: a website and Google Maps, paid once. Google Ads and SEO are monthly, and we only suggest them when your practice is ready for them.

Do I need SEO or Google Ads for my dental practice?

Not yet, if you have one or two dentists at one location. A dental website linked to Google Maps brings in most new patients at that size. Google Ads fits when you take on an associate or a third dentist and their book needs filling. SEO fits when you add a discipline, such as orthodontics, or open a second practice. That rule is our New Patient Growth Ladder, and your rung gets checked on the call.

How does an independent practice compete with corporate dental groups and health fund preferred providers?

Not on price. A corporate group can outspend you, and a health fund can give its members a bigger rebate at its preferred dentists. What an independent dental practice can do is show patients what they can’t see from the outside: the same dentist every visit, how you handle nervous patients, how fast you see emergencies. Put that on every treatment page, and plenty of patients will choose you over the rebate.

Can we advertise a “$199 check-up and clean” or a free consult?

Yes, if the terms are stated. The Dental Board’s advertising rules allow a gift, discount or other inducement only when its terms and conditions are in the ad too: who qualifies, what’s included and when it ends. The offer also can’t push people into treatment they don’t need. We write offers so the terms sit beside the price, and we’d rather your dental practice win on reasons than on discounts.

Can our dentists say they specialise in implants or Invisalign?

No, not unless they hold specialist registration. The Dental Board recognises 13 dental specialties, such as orthodontics and periodontics, and only dentists registered in one can be called specialists or say they specialise. “Specialising in dental implants” is one of the Board’s own examples of a misleading claim. A general dentist can describe the implant or Invisalign work they do and their training, as long as it’s accurate.

How do I fill a new associate dentist’s book?

Give the new associate a page of their own and send treatment searches to them. Patients book a person, so a page that says who the dentist is, what they do and that they have times free this week beats a line on the team page. Then Google Ads for searches like “emergency dentist” or “dental implants” can send those patients straight to the associate’s open times.

Do you work with Dental4Windows, Exact or Dentally?

Yes. We work with the practice software Australian dental practices use, including Dental4Windows, Exact, Dentally, Core Practice and Praktika, and with HealthEngine bookings. Patients still book into your system. We change everything before it, so a new patient picks the right appointment type (new patient exam, emergency, implant consult) and sees which health funds you take before they book.

How long before my dental practice books more new patients?

It depends on the service. A new dental website shows up in bookings quickly: the Mackay chiropractor’s online bookings went from 5.9 to 9.3 a day in the first 10 days. Google Ads work from the day they start. Google Maps and SEO build over months. We can’t promise a number of new patients, because nobody honestly can. But this is what we see again and again with past clients.
