Why isn't my occupational therapy practice getting more new clients?

Occupational therapy practices rarely lack families searching for help. In Brisbane alone, people search for an occupational therapist about 3,500 times a month, and even in Townsville it's about 350. What loses those families is the same four problems, and the fix is the right marketing for the size of your practice, in the right order.

What's going wrong now

  • Most new clients still come through NDIS referrals
  • Parents can't tell what an OT does for their child
  • Paying for marketing with no idea what it brings in
  • A new OT's caseload sitting half empty

What our clients get

  • Families and private clients finding you directly
  • Parents see their child's problem and book an assessment
  • You know what every new client costs you
  • A full caseload for every OT you add

We can't promise a number of new clients. No one can. This is what we see again and again with past clients.

Case study · A chiropractor in Mackay

Our nearest proof: a chiropractor in Mackay went from 5.9 to 9.3 online bookings a day

It's a chiropractic practice, not occupational therapy, but its new clients choose the way families choose an OT: on Google Maps first, then on the website. With three chiropractors it was already on rung two and running Google Ads. We rebuilt the website, linked every service to the Google profile, and left the Google Ads exactly as they were.

  • Online bookings a day5.99.3First 10 days after launch
  • Completed online bookings292351Six weeks before and after launch
  • Cost per booking from Google Ads$15.62$13.82Same ads, same $2,558 spend

They'd been paying for SEO before the rebuild. The new website did so well that they stopped the SEO, as we recommend on rung two, then got so busy they cut back their Google Ads too.

First, an occupational therapy website that books new clients

Everything else stands on two things: your website and the Google Business Profile linked to it. With one or two OTs, those two are usually all the marketing an occupational therapy practice needs, which is why we normally start there. The call confirms it, because every practice is different and there are exceptions.

  • A page for every reason families call

Sensory processing, handwriting, school readiness, autism support, home modifications and functional capacity assessments each get a page in plain words.

  • Google Maps, even for mobile OTs

Home and school visits? Your Google profile is set up for the suburbs you cover, with every service linked to its page.

  • No “specialist”, anywhere

No OT in Australia holds specialist registration, so we write “works mainly with children” and check every line against the Board’s rules.

  • Separate doors for NDIS and private

NDIS participants, plan managers and private families each get their own page and intake form, straight into your system.

  • Get found in ChatGPT

When a parent asks AI whether their child needs an OT, your website and Google profile give it the same clear answer.

Once your website is live

More occupational therapy marketing services we provide

Once the website is bringing families in, we also run Google Ads, SEO, Google Maps care and AI SEO for occupational therapy practices. Google Ads comes in when you take on more OTs, and SEO when you add speech pathology, psychology or a second clinic.

The New Patient Growth Ladder for occupational therapists

With one or two OTs, a website linked to Google Maps is usually all you need. Taking on more OTs? Add Google Ads to fill their caseloads. Adding speech pathology, psychology or another clinic? That's when you add SEO.

  1. 2+ disciplines and/or 2+ clinicsRung 3: + SEO
  2. 3+ OTsRung 2: + Google Ads
  3. 1–2 OTsRung 1: Website + Google MapsStart here

Your AI SEO begins with the website on rung one and widens on rung three. The ladder is our rule, and the call confirms where your OT practice sits, because every practice has its exceptions.

Why occupational therapists work with us

  • We start with what you're known for

We interview you first, so your marketing leads with the clients you want more of: children, adults, NDIS or private.

  • Written inside the Board's rules

Every page and ad is checked against the Occupational Therapy Board's advertising guidance: no client stories about therapy, no “specialist”, no offers without their terms.

  • Measured in new clients

You see enquiries and bookings by service and by funding, NDIS or private, instead of rankings and clicks.

  • Only what your practice needs

Two OTs sharing one caseload hear they're on rung one. Google Ads and SEO wait until your practice grows into them.

  • Works with your practice software

Splose, Cliniko, Zanda, Nookal, Halaxy, Coreplus or whatever your practice runs on.

  • You own everything

Your website, every page and your Google profile belong to you. No lock-in contracts.

Occupational therapy marketing questions practice owners ask

How much does occupational therapy marketing cost?

It depends on which services your occupational therapy practice needs, and we won't guess before we've looked. We work it out with you on a free New Patient Growth Call. Most practices with one or two OTs only need rung one: a website and Google Maps, paid once. Google Ads and SEO are monthly, and we only raise them when your caseloads call for them.

Do I need SEO or Google Ads for my OT practice?

Usually not yet. An occupational therapy practice with one or two OTs gets most of its direct enquiries from Google Maps and the website behind it. Google Ads fits when you take on more OTs and need their caseloads filled. SEO fits when you add speech pathology, psychology or a second clinic. That's the New Patient Growth Ladder, and on the call we confirm your rung.

How do I get more private clients and rely less on the NDIS?

Be easy to find for the problem, not only the funding. Thriving Kids started in October 2026 for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay or autism and low to moderate support needs, and NDIS access changes from 1 January 2028. Families paying privately, or through Medicare or a health fund, search for help with handwriting, sensory issues or school readiness. A clear page for each, with its own enquiry path, brings them to you.

How do I explain occupational therapy to parents?

Start with the problem the parent can see. Most parents don't search for “occupational therapy”: they search for why their child can't hold a pencil, melts down at noise or struggles to get dressed. About 3,600 Australians a month search for “sensory processing disorder” alone. Each service page names the problem, explains what an OT assessment involves and what the first sessions look like, then shows the next step.

Can I call myself a paediatric OT specialist?

No. In Australia, specialist registration exists only in medicine, dentistry and podiatry, and AHPRA says “specialist” or “specialises in” implies a registration no OT holds. You can say you work primarily with children, or have substantial experience with sensory processing, as long as it's accurate. We write every page, ad and Google profile that way.

Do mobile OTs need a website and Google Maps?

Yes, and Google Maps works without a shopfront. A mobile occupational therapy practice that visits homes, schools and childcare centres can run its Google Business Profile as a service-area business, hiding the home address and listing the suburbs it covers. The website then needs a page for each service and the areas you travel to, so the profile has something to point at.

Do you work with Splose, Cliniko or Zanda?

Yes. We work with the practice software OTs use, including Splose, Cliniko, Zanda (formerly Power Diary), Nookal, Halaxy and Coreplus. Clients still book or enquire through your system. We change what comes before it, so an NDIS participant, a plan manager and a private family each land on the right intake form or appointment type.

How long before my occupational therapy practice sees more enquiries?

It depends on the service. A new website can lift bookings within days: the chiropractor in Mackay we rebuilt for went from 5.9 to 9.3 online bookings a day right after launch. Google Ads starts working the day it goes live, while Google Maps and SEO grow over months. We can't promise a number of new clients, because no one can. But this is what we see again and again with past clients.

What happens on the New Patient Growth Call?

Thirty minutes on Zoom with Marlon. We look at your OT practice the way a parent does: what Google Maps and ChatGPT show, then your website and your enquiry steps. Then you hear which rung of the ladder you're on and your next step. If you don't need us, we'll tell you.
